TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY: (1) AT 11JUL26 1200Z, TYPHOON 09W (BAVI) WAS LOCATED NEAR 27.6N 121.8E, APPROXIMATELY 327 NM WEST- NORTHWEST OF KADENA AB, AND HAD TRACKED NORTHWESTWARD AT 16 KNOTS OVER THE PAST SIX HOURS. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS WERE ESTIMATED AT 80 KNOTS GUSTING TO 100 KNOTS. SEE REF A (WTPN31 PGTW 111500) FOR FURTHER DETAILS. (2) NO OTHER TROPICAL CYCLONES. B. TROPICAL DISTURBANCE SUMMARY: (1) AN AREA OF CONVECTION (INVEST 97W) HAS PERSISTED NEAR 10.07N 146.17E, APPROXIMATELY 336.7 NM SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF GUAM. ANIMATED ENHANCED INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTS DEEP CONVECTION PERSISTING NEAR A LOOSELY DEFINED LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION. THE CONVECTION EXHIBITS SOME CURVATURE AND IS UNDER MODERATE VWS (15-20 KNOTS). AN 111126Z ASCAT-B IMAGE REVEALS AN ELONGATED CIRCULATION WITH UP TO 20 KNOT WINDS ON THE NORTHERN PERIPHERY. THE ENVIRONMENT IS MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT, CHARACTERIZED BY MODERATE VWS, ENHANCED WESTWARD OUTFLOW, AND WARM (29 TO 30C) SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES. GLOBAL MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT THAT 97W WILL CONTINUE GENERALLY TOWARDS THE WEST-NORTHWEST BUT LIMIT NEAR-TERM DEVELOPMENT. THE RECENT ENHANCEMENT OF CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY NEAR THE CIRCULATION SIGNALS THAT 97W IS OUTPERFORMING MODEL EXPECTATIONS. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 18 TO 23 KNOTS. ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS REVEALS FAVORABLE CONDITIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT, WITH LOW VWS (5-10 KTS), STRONG DIVERGENCE ALOFT, AND WARM (29-30C) SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES.
